中性密度滤光片(衰减片)即中性密度滤光器、中性密度滤光镜、中性密度衰减片、固定中性密度片，渐变中性密度片,利用物质对光的吸收特性，制成片状，放在光路上，可以将光强衰减，这种片状元件叫光学衰减片。包括固定密度滤光片，线性渐变密度滤光片、圆形渐变密度滤光片等类型。线性渐变密度滤光片(LVND))的光密度沿长边方向区域内线性变化，以起到最大限度调节光能量的作用。圆形渐变密度滤光片(CVND)的光密度在0°-270°扇形区域内线性变化，以起到最大限度调节光能量的作用。光通过衰减片的多少与材料种类有关，也与材料的厚度有关。如衰减片上标准的透过率为0.02，表明光通过该衰减片后，只透过去原来光强的百分之二。一束光中含有不同的波长的光，中性衰减片的含义是，光通过这种衰减片后，不同波长均按同一比例衰减。
